Gilbertie’s Herb Gardens
is the largest herb plant grower in the country, supplying more than 400 varieties of fresh herb plants to American consumers via nurseries and garden centers throughout the northeastern and mid-Atlantic United States.

From their modest beginning in Westport as a cut-flower business established in 1922, Gilbertie’s Herb Gardens still remains a family business.  85 years later, Sal Gilbertie and his family are still providing fine herb plants known throughout the area.  Even 97-year old Nana, Sal’s mother, can be “seen” tending the gardens in Westport, always offering her gardening advice.

Situated on 7 Sylvan Road in Westport, Gilbertie’s garden and retail center is comprised of greenhouses, outdoor formal display gardens and a home gift shop.  Herb plants, decorative herbal topiaries, seasonal vegetables and flowering plants are always available alongside one-of-a-kind items such as books, cards and herbal fragrance products.

Easton Wholesale Farm

The majority of the growing is done at Gilbertie’s wholesale location in Easton, Connecticut, a rural farming town.  Gilbertie’s 37-acre farm has more than 23 growing acres of yarrow, sweet annie, artemisia, sages, mints, anise hyssop, lambs ear and many other herbs.  Greenhouses (200,000 square feet) supply the warm environment for winter seedlings.  Several Colonial-style buildings serve as the firm’s offices and are the production sites for Gilbertie’s all-natural potpourri and home fragrance products.
