Other Broom-Dyer's Genista tinctoria
Dyer's Broom occasionally occurs wild in sandy places in the Northeast and its yellow pea-like flowers make it an attractive garden shrub as well. For centuries, it has been used to dye wool bright yellow and, in conjunction with woad or indigo, makes green. Pickle the young buds for a caper substitute. Formerly thought of as a care for gout and rheumatism.
