Carob - Interest in health food prompted the growing popularity of carob as a chocolate substitute. The fruit of the carob tree, native to the Mediterranean, is a flat, leathery legume, filled with sweet pulp and seed, often used as a livestock feed. Carob flour is made from the fruit, carob guru from the seed. The dark green leaves make carob an attractive plant for a sunny window. Plants will not produce seed in northern climates.
