Carrie, a fourth generation family member has worked to maintain the charisma and tranquility of Gilbertie’s since 1997. Working closely with the community on projects including Westport’s Community gardens and the Westport Farmers’ Market, she helped develop the popular Winter Farmers’ Market at the garden center in 2011 bringing farmers and consumers together in what would normally be a forced winter ‘break’ due to the winter months. She says “guiding people about the importance of clean food, growing organically and respecting nature is critical in our society now, I can’t think of anything I’d rather do for a living”
Her biggest passion, Tropical plants and unusual annuals has her lecturing on the subject frequently as well as designing custom outdoor containers throughout the area for clients
Joe’s plant knowledge is vast and extensive. Responsible for the buying of the perennial and nursery departments at Gilbertie’s, Joe’s passion for horticulture makes him one of our most popular lecturers here at the garden Center, as well as helping customers with garden design and installation.
Herb manager, Assistant store manager
Kevin’s background in retail and produce management show his knack for store merchandising and displays thru ought the entire garden center. His expertise in custom herb containers inspire customers and make him a very sought after designer year round. Responsible for the immense herb selection offered at the garden center, Kevin works closely with Sal Gilbertie at our growing farm in Easton CT ensuring quality herb selections here at the center.
Perennial dept. /Greenhouse propagation and growing
With a Horticulture degree and a CNLA member Sheryl has over 14 years in the industry and an extensive knowledge of plants with a special interest of Trees and Shrubs. Sheryl oversees the greenhouse propagation of the heirloom flowers and vegetables sold at the garden center, the perennial dept., as well as maintaining many of the display beds thru out the property.
At any one time you can see Rhett fixing or building anything, moving or pulling something with the tractor, or delivering bulk soil and mulch thru ought the area. Rhett is responsible for keeping everything here in working order and always happy to help customers along the way.
Donna’s love for plants, people and animals is evident in all she does at Gilbertie’s. She says “I enjoy this healthy environment, being active and outside with people who have similar interests that I do is wonderful!” Her attentive communication skills also come from working with The Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk CT.
